I’m sharing Zicam® in my life as part of a sponsored series with Socialstars. All opinions expressed about ways to avoid catching a cold and advice if you do catch one are my own.
As a busy mom, I never have time to be sick – especially during the holidays. Especially this year. My husband and I have big holiday plans for us and the kids. We are taking our kids on a surprise vacation! I have already been a little (“little” is an understatement!) stressed out about our upcoming trip. There are so many things to worry about between packing suitcases for all four of the kids and making sure everyone stays healthy.
Besides worrying about myself and the kids getting sick, there’s one more person I try to take care of – my husband. Just the other morning, he walked into the kitchen where I was packing school lunches. He started talking (I don’t remember what he was saying) and I noticed right away his voice sounded really congested.
I interrupted whatever he was saying with: ARE YOU GETTING SICK? And he’s all, “I don’t know, maybe…I feel a little sick.” Me: YES, you sound like you are getting a cold. You need to start taking Zicam® Cold Remedy Medicated Fruit Drops RIGHT NOW.
I grabbed a bottle of Zicam® Medicated Fruit Drops and Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs (I was so glad I already had these on hand in my medicine cabinet!) I gave my husband a quick spiel on how he needs to take a Zicam® Medicated Fruit Drop every three hours. He can also alternate between the fruit drops and a Zicam® Nasal Swab every three hours.
My husband took his first Zicam® Medicated Fruit Drop and left for work, armed with enough Zicam® Medicated Fruit Drops and Nasal Swabs to last the rest of the day. I am so glad he started taking Zicam® Cold Remedy at the first sign of his cold. They really work to shorten duration of cold when taken at the first sign of a cold.
And that real life story is a classic example of why I will always have Zicam® Cold Remedy in my medicine cabinet!
Our family holiday vacation is coming up fast, and I want to be as healthy as possible so we can have lots of fun together. I do my best to avoid catching a cold during the holidays by doing the following:
Wash Your Hands
My number one way to avoid getting a cold is to WASH MY HANDS as often as possible. I keep small bottles of hand sanitizer stashed in my purse, my car, and around the house for times when soap and water are not available.
Steer Clear
Steer clear of people who show signs of cold symptoms (coughing, sneezing) whenever possible. I tell my kids to do the same, especially when they are at school.
Shop From Home
I try to do holiday shopping online instead of in stores. Besides avoiding stressful crowds, one health benefit is that you will avoid coming into contact with germs from in-store shoppers.
Make Healthy Food Choices
Many holiday foods tend to be high in calories and low on nutrition. It’s okay to indulge a little (hey, it’s the holidays!) but be sure to add some healthy food choices to your plate, too. Fruits, vegetables, and lean protein help build your immune system.
Get Plenty of Zzzz’s
Make sure to get at least 7 hours of sleep at night. You are more likely to catch a cold if your body is not getting enough rest.
Despite my best efforts to avoid getting a cold during the holidays, it can still happen. The good news is that Zicam® Cold Remedy can help me feel better faster. Zicam® Medicated Fruit Drops and Zicam® Nasal Swabs are amazing homeopathic remedies for the common cold. I recommend these cold shortening products to everyone I know.
You can find Zicam® Cold Remedy in all your major food, drug, and mass merchandise retailers.
Do you have any tips to share with us for how to avoid getting sick with a cold during the holidays? Are you prepared with Zicam® Cold Remedy?

People do not seem to understand/know that, as I’ve read, there are over 200 different viruses that cause your cold, and it takes about 19 days from first exposure until it’s done. Also that the virus that one family member has may not the same virus that other family members get/manifest. So nothing can cure your cold, but you can get symptom relief. Multi ingredients sold are not the way to go. But I certainly agree with the tips of rest, soup, and sanitary precautions. Do not go out if you’re felling “under the weather”. If you’re sick, don’t share. Use the sanitizing wipes on your grocery cart/cart handles, And WASH those hands! People also don’t recognize that they wash their hands, and then undo that by cross-contaminating their hands by touching their face, hair or anything/everything. fwiw

AMY says
Stay inside, rest, soup or broth, pain relievers if needed, medications to help with symptoms, Vicks vapor rub on chest, back, and feet at night to help with coughing and clearing lungs. But only on back for small children so they can’t reach to put in mouth.
Lots of warm blankets and snuggles on the couch aren’t bad eitber.

At the first signs of a cold in our house I bring out the Lysol spray, we already regularly use the wood in our bathrooms & kitchen & I wipe down all the doorknobs, light switches, & toilet/sink handles regularly also! I led it’s one of the kids, I keep them home & comfortable… in their own rooms & keep the other kids away depending on the illness, they may even stay over with a relative to stop the spread! We also try to stay out of the doctors office unless it’s something serious we can’t deal with without antibiotics or a visit because of how much is brought there by other kids! That’s the worst place to go for a cold, not only can they not do anything but you may just leave with something more serious!
