I don’t like to be cold. Once the temperature drops below 70 degrees, I’m pulling out my sweaters! And by the time winter rolls around? I have pulled out all the stops to make sure my home is a warm and cozy retreat from the frigid outdoor temperatures. Today I am sharing some of my favorite ways to create a cozy winter home. Use these simple tips and tricks to turn your home into a haven all winter long.
Use throws. Everyone at my house has their own soft and cuddly throw blanket. We keep them out on the couches so they are always ready for us to cuddle up under.
Cover bare floors with rugs. Bare floors make for cold feet! Keep them covered with rugs during chilly months. I’m also a big fan of wearing slippers and wool socks.
Boost the warmth in your living space with a portable heater. Our De’Longhi SlimStyle Panel Heater ($149.99) is an eco friendly and safe way to boost the heat in the rooms my family likes to gather. De’Longhi’s SafeHeat technology makes this heater a family-friendly choice because it has an automatic “tip over” off switch and thermal cutoff that prevents overheating.
I love to turn up the temperature on the Delonghi heater so the room we are in heats up, while the rest of the house can remain cooler. It is easy to control the temperature using the LED display and digital controls. This particular model is lightweight and slim enough (it measures 3 inches) to even be hung on the wall! I like to keep ours mobile in case I want to use it in a different room. An added bonus of using a heater like this is that our energy use goes down, which means lower energy bills!
Add extra layers of blankets on the beds. We turn the thermostat down a few degrees at night, but extra blankets on the bed keep us plenty warm while we sleep.
Hang heavy curtains on windows. Curtains can block cold drafts coming in from window areas.
Candles. Lots of candles. You can always count on candlelight to create a cozy atmosphere.
Set out potpourri or diffuse essential oils in scents of the season. Seasonal smells can make your cozy winter home feel even cozier! Some of my favorite wintry scents are cinnamon and pine.
