I am sharing my pet’s story as part of a Luvsome sponsored series for Socialstars™. As always, the opinions expressed in the blog post are honest and my own, based on personal experiences. Happiness is a new toy! Our dog, Bear, can’t get enough of this rubber ball – especially if I fill it with treats. He carries it everywhere with him these days. I have to watch out that he doesn’t take it outside, though. We have about 3 feet of snow on the ground so if he drops the ball, we may not find it again for a long time.
Bear took his ball outside last week, and of course it took about 2 minutes for it to get lost in the snow. Poor Bear was sniffing all over the yard trying to find it, but my husband made him come inside before he could locate the toy. It snowed again that night, so we figured Bear’s ball was gone until spring.
You know you love your dog when he loses his ball in the snow, and you bundle up and go out in the cold with a shovel to try to find it. My husband told me the general area Bear had been searching for the ball, so I went out and started digging around. Can you believe I found the ball under about a foot of new snow? I did!
I could tell Bear was super happy to have his toy back. When he is excited, he jumps around, wagging his tail with a big smile on his face. Yes, I think my dog can smile. The things we will do for the love of our dogs!
It makes me feel good to keep Bear happy and healthy. He loves his toys, treats and especially eating at meal time. I recently learned about a new pet food made with high quality ingredients that is affordable AND conveniently available for purchase at the same grocery store where I buy my family’s food.
Luvsome dog food can be found at Kroger family of stores including: Food 4 Less, Fry’s, King Soopers, Kroger, Owen’s, Pay Less, Ralph’s and Smith’s. Learn more about Luvsome, read Luvsome dog food reviews, and compare dog food brands online at the Luvsome website.
My dog can sometimes be picky about trying new foods. I wondered what he would do when I switched him to Luvsome dry dog food. The short answer? He “Luvs” it! I had no problem getting him to dig in to a big bowl of Luvsome Natural dog food.
Luvsome dog food provides 100% balanced nutrition and is made with high quality ingredients filled with protein and essential vitamins and minerals. I almost couldn’t believe the low price on Luvsome dog food at my Kroger store. It is a great value, plus I can get all of my family’s food shopping – including Bear’s food – done at the same grocery store. Those are some nice perks. I love to save money and time.
The Mystery of the Disappearing Dog Food
Bear spends a lot of time indoors during the colder months. Around the holidays, I started noticing a couple of unusual things: Bear didn’t have his usual ravenous appetite at feeding times, and he was starting to look a little bit overweight. This didn’t add up. Something was going on.
It took me a couple days of detective work, but I figured out what what going on. Bear was spending lots of time inside with access to his open bag of dog food. He was basically free feeding himself around the clock. No wonder he wasn’t hungry at meal times anymore, and no wonder he was packing on the extra pounds!
At least this kind of pet problem has a simple solution. We needed to get “Bear-proof” dog food container. I searched around for pet food storage ideas. My ideal container would be large (able to hold at least 25 pounds of dog food), durable (metal preferred), and have a locking lid (no more sneaky snacks for Bear!)
I finally found a budget-friendly solution at the hardware store: a 6-gallon galvanized steel trash can with a locking lid. It’s got a classic bucket look and is built to last, plus the container is rodent-proof, so I don’t have to worry about little critters getting into the dog food.
DIY Personalized Pet Container on a Budget
With a little bit of chalkboard spray paint, I was able to turn the steel bucket/trash can into a personalized dog food container. In my opinion, our new pet food storage container is better than the high end (and 5 times as expensive!) containers. You can do what I did, and make your pet a customized container.
I like that I can write erasable messages on the chalkboard, such as feeding directions for when someone is pet-sitting our dog while we are out of town. It’s a handy feature!
Get the Look! DIY Dog Food Container
Materials Needed:
- Galvanized Steel Container with Lid (our container is the 6-gallon size)
- Chalkboard Spray Paint
- Painter’s Tape
Directions:
1. Use painter’s tape to tape off a rectangular area on the front of the container.
2. Following the usage directions found on the spray paint can, spray paint the area of the container you want to turn into a chalkboard area. Allow paint to dry completely, and repeat with a second coat of chalkboard spray paint. Let the chalkboard paint dry for at least 24 hours. Remove painter’s tape. Your chalkboard container is now ready to use.

Love this “Bear-proof” container. When we had a dog we used to keep the food in an ugly plastic container…this is much better!
