Looking for an easy to make teacher gift idea that only costs about $5? Check out this useful DIY pencil holder/organizer I put together with items from my local dollar store. I bought 2 cute polka-dotted mini tin buckets, a package of ABC stickers, and 2 packs of color-coordinating pencils. Note: There’s actually 2 packages of pencils per bucket (shown in the photo) so the total cost for this craft project as shown was $7. But you could totally get by with using just 1 package of pencils per bucket.
A teacher I know told me she likes to have plenty of sharpened pencils on hand for students to use. But once they have been used, they need to be returned to a separate place to be sharpened again. So, I took 2 containers and used the ABC stickers to label one container for “Sharp” pencils and put “Needs Sharpening” on the other. Now her students can grab a pencil from the Sharp bucket and return it to the Needs Sharpening bucket.
This teacher gift took me less than 5 minutes to put together from start to finish. A pencil holder/organizer may be a simple gift, but I know it will be useful in the classroom.

This is a very cute idea. A holder for sharpened pencils and one for unsharpened pencils. I would love to make this. Such a useful thing for a teacher.

Definitely a useful gift–teachers can never have too many pencils ready–and there has to be a space to put the ones to be re-sharpened so they are ready “for next time”.
