I love Julia Child’s infamous cooking advice: Learn how to cook — try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all have fun.
Cooking is not a skill that comes naturally to me. I envy those who can somehow whip up a gourmet meal out of thin air, without even using a recipe or measuring cup! Learning to cook is a lifelong goal of mine and Julia Child’s advice reminds me to keep going, despite all my (many) kitchen failures. Her advice also reminds me to have fun! Trying new recipes, especially desserts, is one of my favorite things to do.

In honor of her birthday coming up on August 15, my Foodie collection includes French dessert recipes inspired by Julia Child. Creme Brulee is the first dessert that comes to mind when I think “French Desserts.” I need a blow torch for that one! And I have been wanting to make an Apple Charlotte ever since it got served to my favorite Downton Abbey family.
What are some of your favorite French desserts? Have you tried any of Julia Child’s recipes? Let me know your favorites from my collection:

The cream puffs and chocolate mousse would have to be my favorites. They’re so yummy!
