I wish I had a lemon tree growing in my yard so I could enjoy freshly-squeezed lemonade every day of the summer. You’ll know what I mean once you taste this delicious homemade lemonade recipe.
It’s easy to make the best homeade lemonade with just 3 ingredients: Lemons, Sugar and Water.
I think the secret to amazing lemonade is to serve it over a tall glass of ice cubes. There’s nothing like enjoying ice cold lemonade on a hot day.
Homemade Lemonade Recipe
makes 2 quarts
Ingredients:
- 6 lemons, cut in half
- 1 cup sugar
- Water
- Ice Cubes
optional: 1 lemon, sliced (for garnish)
Directions:
- Cut 6 lemons in half. Squeeze the lemon juice into a bowl. Pour juice through a strainer to get the seeds out.
- On low heat, simmer 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar together to make a “simple syrup”. Stir for a minute or two until sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the strained lemon juice to the sugar/water and stir together.
- Fill a large (2 quart) pitcher with ice cubes. Add the lemon water to the pitcher. Fill the pitcher up with cold water. Optional: Add lemon slices into the pitcher. Stir well and serve over ice.
Add more sugar to taste if desired. I thought this lemonade was perfectly sweetened, but everyone’s taste buds may be a little different!
I use this lemonade to make freckled Strawberry lemonade, too. Check out my Strawberry Lemonade recipe.

Mmmmm … I LOVE lemonade and you are so right … lemonade made from fresh lemons is the BEST! Living in an area where winter often means below-freezing temperatures, I didn’t think I could grow a citrus tree. It turns out that I can … in a container which gets rolled into the house during the winter. And (surprise of all surprises), it produces fruit. Delicious, juicy, sweet fruit! So … if you can’t have one in your yard, you might be able to have a “portable” tree. 🙂

What a great idea! If you have got a blog post about how to grow a lemon tree in a container – please share the link. I would love to try that. It’s way too cold here for citrus and just about any fruit tree. I need some indoor plants around here, especially in winter. That is so neat that you figured out how to have a real (producing!) lemon tree.

No, I’ve not done a blog post … sorry. We bought a variety of lime tree which stays relatively small so I would check with a nursery for their recommendations on dwarf trees. Citrus like a lot of fertilizer – we do “green” fertilizer (like this one: http://www.ehow.com/how_5003134_make-organic-citrus-fertilizer.html). Citrus don’t like “wet feet” so be sure to have good drainage in the pot. During the winter, when it tends to be very dry here, we place a pan of water next to the plant to add humidity to it’s surroundings. They are actually pretty easy to grow. Here’s a good article on growing them, including varieties which are more suited to containers: http://lifeonthebalcony.com/how-to-grow-tangy-citrus-in-your-container-garden/ Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for all the information. I appreciate your time and sharing these articles with me. I really want to try this! It’s super dry here (we live in the desert) so I could even set my tree next to our humidifier in the house. 🙂
