Grab a spoon because you’re going to want to try this Nutella Hot Chocolate recipe! It’s so easy – just two ingredients – plus it’s ready in seconds from the microwave.
My family eats a lot of Nutella. I keep at least a couple jars of this chocolate hazelnut spread in the pantry at all times. It has become a household staple we use for sandwiches. My kids love Nutella as much as peanut butter. It’s an easy snack that tastes so good on bread, apples and even all by itself.
We also eat Nutella Banana sandwiches. And now, thanks to this homemade hot chocolate, we have a new way to enjoy Nutella. I’m sure you’ll agree Nutella makes a delicious hot cocoa drink. Check out the simple directions below.
The first time I made Nutella Hot Chocolate, I was surprised at how creamy it turned out. Nutella dissolves easily and the end result was hot chocolate that tasted at least as good if not better than gourmet hot cocoa mixes.
I used 2% milk to make my hot chocolate. If you use 1% or skim, it may be less creamy. Use whole milk for ultimate richness.
We love to drink hot chocolate in the wintertime, and using Nutella is an unexpectedly new way to make it. Try it and let me know what you think! I usually buy Nutella at Costco or Sam’s Club for the lowest prices, but Amazon has good deals on Nutella, too.

I am about to try this now, sounds good but will be my first attempt, any mixing it prep tips that may come in handy?
Nicole says
Hi Emmy,
I’m sure you’ll be able to mix it up with no problem. The only tip I can think of off the top of my head is that if the Nutella doesn’t completely melt at first, slowly reheat the milk to a temperature where the Nutella melts as you stir. Hope you enjoy! -Nicole

What a terrific idea to kick the hot chocolate up to the next level. Thank you! My Grandkids are going to love this variation!

This looks amazing!! After a long day at work, my go-to is definitely a spoonful (or several) of Nutella and a glass of wine. Do you think it would taste okay with unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of regular milk?
Nicole says
Hey Emily! I have never tried this recipe with anything but cow’s milk. It would be worth a try. I love Dark Chocolate Almond milk – so now you have got me curious about flavoring regular Almond milk. You’ll have to let me know if you like it or not if you do try it.

This sounds delicious and a nice twist on hot cocoa! I have never tried Nutella- yeah yeah I know, but it is pricier and I have hot cocoa left still. When I run out of hot cocoa I am going to get a jar of that Nutella stuff and give this a try (and hope I dont eat up the whole jar!)
Nicole says
Ellen, Nutella is SO good right out of the jar. It is a healthy-ish fix for any chocolate craving. I hope you like it! If you know anyone with a Sams or Costco membership, that is the place to buy it. The jars there are bigger than at the grocery store and cost the same.
Sarah L says
I’ve never tried Nutella. I like hot chocolate so I’d try this first when I get some at Costco.

I pick up Nutella at the grocery store. We enjoy it on banana and apples and toast and pretty much everything. Do you think it’s available in a 5 pound bucket?
Nicole says
I have only ever seen Nutella in the larger size jars from Sam’s and Costco. I’m not sure off the top of my head how many ounces they are. But if I did see a 5 lb bucket, I’d buy it at a good price. We go through lots of jars of Nutella pretty quickly at my house.
Stoic Kitty says
I have seen Nutella at the grocery store, but I have never tried it.
I will give Nutella another look the next time I get groceries.
