My children have never met a LEGO they didn’t like – and the new Read and Build LEGO DUPLO sets have impressed us again! Just like so many other preschoolers, my 3-year-old son enjoys seeing farm animals in real life, books, toys, you name it. The LEGO DUPLO Busy Farm is destined to be a classic. This set comes with 15 DUPLO bricks and a story book with easy directions to show young builders how to create fun farm animals: a cow, rooster, pig, and sheep.
The first time my son and I played with the barn set together, I read the book and let him pick out the DUPLO bricks shown in the pictures as it came time to build each animal. I then showed him how to put the bricks together to build the animal. It was so cute to see how thrilled he was when each animal came together.
He has gradually learned how to put the animals together by himself. The set of farm animals is fun for him to play with and he has even gathered his animals up at nighttime to sleep in his bed. (Isn’t that the universal sign that a child loves a toy?)
The LEGO DUPLO play sets combine storytime with playtime for an interactive learning experience. Did you know that play time has an important role in a child’s cognitive development? Imaginative play allows a child to explore, bend the rules of reality and become a better problem solver. I also think it’s great to incorporate playing with the LEGO DUPLO bricks with reading a story because kids will associate the fun they have playing with reading books.
The Let’s Go! Vroom! play set has little boy appeal written all over it – the set includes 12 LEGO DUPLO pieces that build a simple airplane and race car. The first time we played with this, we had to build first, read later because my boys could not wait to get the vehicles built. There are 2 characters in the book whose heads are included as DUPLO pieces so they can drive and fly the airplane and car.
Preschool age children will have a blast playing with the LEGO DUPLO Read and Build sets. The items they get to build are fun and appeal to a younger age range, plus young learners will be able to build them by themselves with a little bit of practice. These play sets make a great gift idea for kids ages 18 months to 4 years. Each set is affordably priced at around $13.

These sets look wonderful, Nicole! I especially love the one about making farm animals. (Yup, it’s going on the list!)

Hi Ellen, We definitely love the barn animals. They are so cute! The others are fun, too, but if we had to pick just one it would be the barn. Thanks for stopping by!
