My kids and I don’t eat a lot of meat. We aren’t vegetarian or on a special diet, we just don’t have the desire to eat meat every day. Since protein is an important part of a healthy diet, especially for growing kids, we look to other protein sources besides meat.

There are many kid-friendly protein sources. Peanut butter, milk, beans, eggs and yogurt are some of our favorite protein-rich foods. allwhites banana shake A delicious and easy way to add protein to our diets is with a smoothie. It’s super simple to boost a smoothie’s protein content (20+ grams!) in a low-calorie, naturally fat-free way by adding AllWhites Egg Whites. They are yolk-free and cholesterol-free, and have a OPointsPlus® value per serving on the Weight Watchers program.

I love this Carob Nut Banana Protein Smoothie recipe I found at AllWhites Egg Whites Favorites for several reasons. Starting with the carob nut powder as a naturally sweet, fat-free and caffeine-free alternative to chocolate. Carob powder looks very similar to cocoa and can be substituted one-for-one in recipes. Look for it in the health section of the grocery store. If you have never tried carob powder before, you are in for a treat!

We almost always have bananas on hand, they are the one fruit all four of my kids agree to love. For this banana smoothie recipe, we used sliced bananas, peanut butter, a splash of milk and AllWhites® egg whites plus a scoop of carob nut powder. It blends in seconds and is ready to serve immediately. We think it’s really yummy! allwhites egg whites

I have been looking for healthy and easy ways for us to get more protein. My kids play sports and I like to exercise, so protein shakes are good for that boost of energy and nutrition we need to keep going.

Learning to use AllWhites® egg whites as a source of protein in our smoothies and shakes has been a game-changer for me. AllWhites® is an easy ingredient to keep on hand. It doesn’t change the taste of our smoothies. In fact, I think it may make them BETTER because the egg whites seem to make the texture smooth and creamy.

AllWhites® egg whites are packaged in a convenient, easy-to-pour carton, similar to a milk carton. Look for them in the refrigerated dairy section of your supermarket. carob nut banana protein smoothie

A tasty, energy-boosting protein shake recipe you can make in five minutes. Each serving contains a whopping 24 grams of protein!

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup AllWhites® egg whites
  • 1 banana (small), cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • 1 Tbsp. dried carob powder
  • 2 Tbsp. reduced fat peanut butter

Directions: Combine all ingredients in blender. Cover and blend on medium speed until smooth. Serve immediately. Recipe can easily be doubled.
