A hearty bowl of chicken noodle soup is comfort food at its best. It’s the perfect way to warm up on the inside when it’s cold outside. It’s also my go-to meal whenever someone in the family has a cold or isn’t feeling well. It’s almost magical how chicken noodle soup can help you feel so much better.
I have partnered with Acorn Influence for today’s sponsored blog post. As always, the opinions shared are my own.
I’m pretty picky when it comes to chicken noodle soup. It’s got to have lots of egg noodles, tasty pieces of real chicken, and chopped vegetables. A soup like that has got to be homemade from scratch, right? Wrong! Progresso Rich & Hearty Chicken & Homestyle Noodle soup has all my favorite things about chicken noodle soup, plus it’s easy to keep on hand to help me make a real dinner, real fast.
Progresso uses high quality, real ingredients like 100% hormone-free white chicken breast, carrots, celery and egg noodles to make a Chicken and Homestyle Noodle soup that tastes delicious. Each can contains about 2 servings, so I usually need to heat up 3 cans of soup to feed my family of six.
Although you can heat the soup in the microwave, I pour multiple cans into a pot and heat it on the stove while my bread bowls are baking. Have you ever eaten soup served in a bread bowl? You have got to give it a try. Just thinking about warm soup and soft bread is making me feel hungry. It’s comfort food, squared!
I found out an amazingly easy hack for making homemade bread bowls out of refrigerated dough. Refrigerated dough is ready to be baked right when you open it, so you can enjoy bread bowls fresh from the oven, ready to fill with soup in minutes.

I use Pillsbury refrigerated French Bread dough to make quick and easy bread bowls. The trick is to cut the loaf in half, then cut each half in half. You’ll have four equal pieces of dough to roll into a ball shape. Shape the dough around custard cups (I used 4-ounce size cups) to form a bowl shape. The dough will then bake into a bread shaped like a bowls – it’s really simple!

Shape refrigerated French Bread dough to bake bread bowls in minutes. Heat chicken noodle soup thoroughly before pouring into bread bowls. Serve immediately.

- Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Place 4 custard cups upside down on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Spray outside of cups with cooking spray.
- Cut the loaf of dough in half, and then cut each half in half. You should have 4 equal pieces of dough. Roll each piece into a ball shape.
- Place each dough ball over a custard cup and shape the dough to fit around the cup and form a bowl shape. *Do not let the dough touch the cookie sheet.
- Bake 11 to 13 minutes or until bread is golden brown. Meanwhile, open the soup cans and pour into a pot. Heat soup thoroughly on the stovetop or microwave according to can directions.
- Remove custard cups from oven and cool for 3-5 minutes on cooling rack. Carefully take each the bread bowl off of the custard cup.
- Place a bread bowl inside a soup bowl or on a plate. Fill bread bowl with soup. Serve immediately.
I like to buy Progresso Rich & Hearty Chicken & Homestyle Noodle soup and my family’s other Progresso favorites at Walmart. Look for the blue cans (that’s what I do!) Now that the temperatures are getting colder outside, I start stocking my pantry with more soups. Progresso soups help me make quick, comforting dinners for my family in the fall and winter months.
Stock up your soup pantry with Progresso soups at Walmart. Did you notice that every can’s label has Box Tops for Education on it? Be sure to save your Box Tops and turn them into your local schools.
What is your favorite Progresso soup? Have you tried the Rich & Hearty Chicken & Homestyle Noodle soup yet?

They are really easy! And one of the best parts about using refrigerated dough for the bread bowls is there’s no messy flour, etc. to clean up. 🙂 Thanks for your sweet comments, Crystal.

I love this! I used to get soup in a bread bowl at a restaurant nearby. I’ve been gluten free for several years now, so I’m hoping someone will create gluten free refrigerated dough. (Hmm, maybe that already exists? I need to check!) #HomeMattersParty

If gluten-free refrigerated dough doesn’t exist, you should invent it! That would be huge! Thanks for your comment, Pam. Have a great weekend! –Nicole
