School is back in session, which means after school activities will be starting up too. We haven’t signed up for anything yet – we are still trying to decide between a few different indoor activities, including gymnastics and swimming.
My children really enjoy taking gymnastics, but I wasn’t too impressed with the actual facility at the last place where we took lessons. The lessons were held in a large warehouse type building that felt dirty and drafty.
The gymnastics equipment was worn, but still worked. I liked the instructors, but the atmosphere of the place was a turn off for me. Maybe I am just a gym snob, since I worked at a state-of-the-art gymnastics school during high school. I’m trying not to let my personal feelings get in the way of my children doing an activity they love and that is so good for them.
Swimming is another option – but again, the facility is a turn off for me. I don’t like indoor pools because of the strong chlorine smell in the air, plus I feel like germs and bacteria are growing everywhere. On the other hand, my children need to learn to swim and it is a good physical activity.
There are a few more options I have in mind, but those are top on our list right now.
What after school activities will your child be participating in this fall?

We went back and forth – gymnastics, swimming lessons, cheer, dance, etc.
Finally decided on a dance studio because we had friends tell us they were good and they were by far the cheapest option around.
I did however, spend a LOT of time researching everything!

It’s so hard to decide because I want to pick one and stick with it. Some of these places have high registration fees (not including the monthly fees) and in the past I have paid those and had my son want to quit after only a couple months. Grrr…made me so frustrated! (that was Taekwondo…can’t say I blamed him, it was sort of boring for ME to have to watch. LOL)
I hope dance works out and is fun. 🙂

I definitely understand that. This dance place we found has a $20 registration fee for families so it wasn’t too bad- gymnastics was like $60 for 2 kids just for the registration fee. We did have to buy shoes and a few things for dance but in the end in works out to be cheaper than anything else and I know it’s what my kids really want to do. I got a class for younger one who was leaning towards wanting to do gymnastics that is jazz/hip hop and tumbling so it has a little gymnastics in it and I think she’ll really like it.
