I received a free review copy of this book so that I could share my thoughts about it on the blog tour. All opinions are 100% my own.
I have heard celebrities rave about Hollywood hairstylist Ken Paves for years. He works his styling magic on beautiful women like Eva Longoria, Victoria Beckham and Jessica Simpson. And now he shares his beauty secrets with the world in the book, You Are Beautiful.
The book is part biography, part beauty guide. If you don’t know Ken Paves before you read the book, you certainly feel like you have met him after you read his story. And you wish that he was your best friend, because he genuinely wants every woman to feel and look beautiful on the inside and out.
I love that even though Ken Paves could have featured any number of gorgeous celebrities in his book, he chose to use “real” women. His female family members and friends are part of the book! Ken Paves sees each and every one of them as beautiful, and helps them to see their own beauty, too. Through their transformations, we see how Ken helps them recognize and use their best features. The tips he shares with them will work for any woman.
You Are Beautiful is divided into three parts: Own It!, Work It!, and Live It! Part 1 (Own It!) introduces us to Ken, talks about the meaning of true beauty and introduces the real women in Ken’s life. My favorite part of the book is Part 2 (Work It!) because this is the largest section full of beauty advice. There are step-by-step instructions and photos that help illustrate everything Ken is teaching us about how to look our own personal best.
There’s a lot of great information about hair care, which I especially loved because it taught me so much about how to properly care for my hair and even how to get the most out of my salon visits. One of my favorite passages in the book reads,
I hope you realize …what a beautiful woman you are inside and out, by accepting who you are and what you look like at this very moment. Fully accepting who you are, though, isn’t always easy.
The solution lies in learning how to take care of yourself in all aspects of your life, so you feel better about who you are and what you look like. It all goes back to self-love. When you treat yourself well by taking time to care for your body, hair, skin, and nails, and when you nourish your soul by doing things you like and surrounding yourself with upbeat people and positive experiences, your whole outlook brightens. Give yourself the attention you deserve.
Ken Paves’ hair care tips totally changed the way I shampoo and style my hair. He has tips and tricks for everything from shampoo ingredients to the actual process of how to shampoo your hair correctly. And he advises against shampooing every day. I am now following all of his hair care advice to a T and hope that healthy, beautiful hair will be the end result.
I love the hair style instructions for how to create a chignon and one pin French twist. I feel like Ken Paves is sharing all of his best hair styling secrets with me! And not only do we read Ken’s tips, he includes advice from other expert hairdressers, makeup artists and clothing stylists.
That’s right, this beauty guide is not just about the hair. You are Beautiful also includes Ken’s best advice on makeup and clothing. There is even a list of “must-haves” for every woman’s closet.
Part 3 (Work It!) is where everything comes together. The final results of his family and friends’ makeovers brings us to the end of the book where our beautiful journey begins when we take Ken Paves’ tips and tricks and help ourselves realize that we are all beautiful.
I would recommend this beauty guide to women of all ages who want to learn how to maximize their own natural beauty. Ken Paves has written a beauty guide book that is informative, uplifting and inspiring.

I really like this book. I rented it fromt the library. However, it could be bought to add to any collection because it’s tips are timeless. I just used the section about how to cut your own bangs, I followed his instructions to the letter and viola, perfect side-swept bangs! This is my new fav beauty book, no need to buy magazines for one little article anymore.
And reaching 40, I’m starting to understand…I am beautiful, imperfections and all!

That’s great you were able to cut your own bangs! I keep thinking I want to have bangs again. I need to get this book out again, it’s been awhile since I have read it. But I completely agree with you that reading it makes you feel beautiful, no matter what. I remember feeling the same way when I first read it. Thanks for your comments! Nicole

I have seen him on TV. He seems authentic and by your book review, he must be. I love that he focuses on self-confidence and gives beauty tips.

I so need this…I am about the least fashion and beauty conscious person known to man! I may have to add this one to the wish list!

Sounds like a good book, I will have to check this one out. Very true about having to accept yourself the way you are!

This sounds like a great book. There’s tons of “beauty” books, but not that many “hair” books.

Looks interesting enough to check it out from the library.

Like how this talks about maximizing your natural beauty. We are all beautiful…wrinkles, scars, imperfections, bad hair, pale skin, too thin, too tall…whatever problem you think you have is beautiful because it makes up you.

Where have I been? I don’t recollect hearing Ken Paves’ name before. I guess perhaps that it’s because I have never given myself the attention that I need on the outside. I find it so exhausting trying to take care of my illness that I guess I have just given up. Maybe it’s time for me…
Sherry Compton says
It is time for you. My daughter was critically ill this last year and her body took quite the hit. I’m sorry for your illness but glad you are recovering. Realize that you are beautiful, worthy, and important.

I hear you, ilness and conditions are exausting, and he addresses that in this book. Simplly, less is more, and it doesn’t have to take hours to get ready to run out the door to run errands, with an easy cut, and a few basics, you WILL feel beautiful.

This does sound like a great beauty guide. I shall see if my library carries it.

This sounds like an interesting book that would be encouraging for the average woman. I’m not one for being ultra put together, I much prefer to be low maintenance, it just makes life easier.
