Some of the best outdoor DIY Halloween decorations we have ever had are easy to make and practically free. See how to use cheap glow sticks and empty toilet paper rolls to make glowing eyes in the bushes! This is a great idea for last minute Halloween decor.
Start saving cardboard rolls for Halloween toilet paper roll crafts like spooky glowing eyes. The more, the scarier! We like to stick these in the bushes outside our front door. Once it gets dark outside, the glowing eyes are the only thing you can see peeking out at you.

Tools and Materials Needed:
- Cardboard toilet paper rolls or craft rolls
- Glow Sticks (1 stick per roll)
- Scissors
Directions:
1. Use scissors to cut out eye shapes in each toilet paper roll. There’s really no right or wrong way to do this! We cut out all different shapes and sizes.
2. When you are ready to decorate with your glowing eyes, crack open a glow stick and set it inside the toilet paper roll. Balance the now-glowing toilet paper roll on the branches of a bush or tree. Add more glowing eyes to your bushes to get the effect you want.
Tip: If you want the glow stick to be extra secure inside the roll, you can use a piece of tape to block the openings on the ends of the roll.
Keep in mind that most glow sticks last for 8 to 12 hours, so you don’t want to crack them open too early. We usually wait until it’s almost dark to put our glowing eyes out in the bushes. That way, they will glow all night on Halloween.

Where can a get a stencil of eyes for this project?

Hi Vanessa,
Thanks for your question! The good news is, there isn’t a stencil. If you want to use a pencil to draw guidelines for when you cut out the eyes, a simple shape to draw like a diamond or oval or skinny rectangles. They don’t need to be perfect, and whatever shapes you cut will look good in the dark with glow sticks lighting them up. If you want super straight guidelines, you could use a ruler to draw the lines. I hope that helps answer your question. Let me know if there’s anything else I can try to help with. Good luck! -Nicole
