Every now and then, I miss a Laundry Day or two in a row and my house gets hit by the phenomenon we like to call Laundry Mountain. It happens when our laundry basket is completely full, but everyone keeps piling dirty clothes on top. The mountain grows higher and higher until it’s halfway to the ceiling.
Eventually, somebody tosses something on there that causes the whole mountain topple down onto the floor. That’s when I know I can’t put off Laundry Day any longer.
Luckily, I know a few laundry tips and tricks to help me get the job done efficiently. These ingenius laundry hacks will have you speeding through your dirty laundry pile the next time it’s your turn to wash and dry.
Save Time Sorting on Laundry Day.
Instead of tossing all of your dirty clothes into the same basket, use a white laundry basket and colored laundry basket. As items go into the dirty laundry, go ahead and sort the white items into the white laundry basket, and the colored items into the colored laundry basket.
Simplify Laundry Detergent.
Single dose packs are convenient and simple to use. Remember to toss the single use pods into the washing machine drum before you load the clothes. There’s no need to measure out detergent or deal with messy spills. It’s so easy, even my husband KIDS can do it!
Eliminate Unnecessary Laundry
You can quit washing jeans so often. Jeans can be worn many times before needing a wash (unless they get a stain.) What other clothing items could you wear more than once before washing?
Make your clothes dry faster.
Try this towel trick: Add a dry, fluffy towel to a clean laundry load before you put it in the dryer. Your clothes will dry faster.
Wash your washing maching.
That’s right, the machine that cleans our clothes needs to be cleaned every few months. Use a washing machine cleaner to reduce build-up and deodorize. A clean washing machine performs its job better.
Dry bulky bedding faster.
Speed up the dry time for bulky bedding and pillows when you toss a few clean tennis balls into the dryer with them. The tennis balls help increase airflow in the dryer, so things get dry faster.
Solve the case of disappearing socks.
Hang a “Missing Socks” basket on your laundry room wall. Put match-less socks in there until their mate appears.
Dry Erase Reminders.
Use a dry erase marker to write reminder notes on your washer or dryer. For example, if you are washing a blouse that should not be dried in the dryer, you can write a “Don’t put blouse in the dryer” note. Easily wipe away your note when the laundry is done.
Alarm Reminders.
Set an alarm on your phone to remind you when to move a load of laundry from the washer to the dryer, or alert you when the dryer is finished. It can help you avoid having to re-wash a forgotten load of mildewed laundry or having to iron out wrinkles.
Hang Dry Hack.
Install a retractable clothesline to hang and dry your clothes in the laundry room.

These are FANTASTIC tips. I’d never considered using a dry erase marker on my washer/dryer unit. I don’t have to worry about alarms when my wash is done, because there’s a built-in notification on my machine. Looking forward to my next load of laundry to give these a try. Thanks again!
