This past weekend, my husband and kids joined the millions of other Marvel fans around the world to see the Captain America Civil War movie. The kids loved it (of course!) The movie is action-packed and all their favorite superheroes made an appearance at one point or another. They seemed especially excited to see Spiderman and Ant Man. Whatever happened in the movie with Ant Man’s storyline made them really like Ant Man.
Their only complaint was about the less exciting “talking parts.” They also thought the movie was a little long. It’s 2 hours and 27 minutes long, so yeah, that is a long stretch of time for my kids to sit still! But when it comes to the Marvel movies, they somehow manage to pull it off without even a bathroom break! I’m sure we will end up watching this movie many more times once it comes out on DVD. Truth be told, they will probably go see it in the theater again because I haven’t see it for the first time yet.
In honor of Captain America Civil War becoming the box office smash we all knew it would be, I am sharing our easy bake Captain America Shield Giant Cookie Cake recipe. This giant cookie cake first appeared on my website way back in 2014 when the first Captain America movie came out on DVD.
How to Make a Captain America Shield Giant Cookie Cake
- Press cookie dough into a round shape (or cake pan) and bake as directed (in your recipe or on the refrigerated dough package) until a toothpick in the center of your cookie cake comes out clean. It took my cookie about 16 minutes in a 350 degree oven to fully bake.
- Allow the cookie to cool completely. If you bake in a cake pan, leave it in the cake pan. It looks like a cool metal shield that way!
- Once the cookie is cooled, spread a thick layer of white icing to completely cover the top of the cookie.
- Now for the fun part: Decorating Captain America’s Shield with M&Ms! I used a star-shaped cookie cutter to give me a general outline of the star in the center of the cookie. But if you don’t have one, don’t worry. Just start placing blue M&Ms in a star shape and if you need to pull them out and start over – no big deal.
- Next for the Red M&Ms. Place them in a circle pattern that hits the 5 points of your Blue M&Ms star. Then fill in the spaces with Blue M&Ms where needed. I made a second circle of Red M&Ms around the first circle of Red M&Ms, then skipped a couple of inches to the outside for the final two rings of Red M&Ms. Cut and Serve.

TIP: It’s helpful to look at a picture of Captain America’s shield as a guide for placing M&Ms on your cookie cake.

Enjoy your Captain America Shield Giant Cookie Cake! Serve by cutting the cookie into triangle-shaped slices (the same way you’d slice a cake).
Are you having a Captain America party? This Captain America Shield Giant Cookie Cake would make a great treat for a birthday party or watch party.
