Get your little ones to sleep (and stay asleep) with a White Noise Machine

The holiday travel season is upon us. Many families, like my own, will be spending at least part of the holiday season away from home. As much as I love visiting relatives, it is really hard to get a good night’s sleep at someone else’s house (or in a hotel). Traveling with a baby and/or young children can make things even harder. Everyone  is in an unfamiliar place with different sounds. A Dohm “white noise” machine is a natural, safe solution to your sleep troubles.

A white noise machine creates a soothing sound like rushing air, also called white noise. This sound has been proven to block out noises at all sorts of frequencies. The Dohm machine’s sound can effectively mask snoring, voices, dogs barking and other household sounds so babies, children and adults can sleep without disruptions.

Dohmie Baby Bundle

We have been using Marpac’s Dohmie Serious Sleep Baby Bundle ($59.99, Toys R Us) for the past several weeks in our home. This package includes a Dohm Sound Conditioner, a Your ZZZ’s storybook and Sleep Training 101 by the National Sleep Foundation.

I started using the Dohm when we moved my youngest son out of his crib and into the room with his older brother. Neither one of the boys was used to sharing a room, so I was concerned they would wake each other up during the night should one of them cry or sleep talk. The white noise created by the Dohm is a uniform background sound in their room that helps them stay asleep, even if one of them wakes up crying during the night.

We’ll be taking our Dohm with us whenever we go out of town. The kids will be “sleep trained” to fall asleep to the white noise, and the Dohm will block out sounds that would otherwise wake them up. It’s a must have holiday travel gadget the whole family could use!

My bedroom is across the hall from the boys, and I have to admit, I like hearing the soothing, consistent sound of white noise. The tone and volume is easily adjusted to suit your preferences. I would have loved to have a Dohm in my baby’s nursery from Day One. These are amazing. Now, I want to put a Dohm in every bedroom of our house so we can all get a better night’s sleep.

Who would you give the gift of sleep this holiday season?  Do you have a baby or child who could use a Dohm to help them fall asleep and stay asleep? Have you ever tried a sound conditioner like the Dohm?

I think this would be good for me…I use a fan during most of the year for white noise, but a few months of the year it’s just too cold to have the fan on. This would be a perfect solution.

I admit that I am one of those people who sleep horribly. I need a sleep mask, sounds, etc… so I was all for sleep-training my kids. This is a great way to do so! Thank you

We had to use white noise with a few of our kids. It was so helpful in getting them to sleep better.

This would be awesome if it worked for us…white noise consists of multiple box fans in our house. Seriously…plural.

That definitely sounds like it would help transitioning from crib to bed.

My daughter could definitely benefit from one of those. She has a habit of waking up early and then wanting to snuggle and go back to sleep on the couch at like 5 a.m.

We could love without our noise machines, it the only way my kids can fall asleep, even as teenagers.
