Thank you to Kix Cereal for sponsoring today’s discussion on the new cereal boxes and Kix Cereal Adventures! All opinions expressed are my own.
Over the past few years, Kix has fueled kids’ imaginations by sharing crafts, science experiments and activities on their website and Facebook page. Kix takes children’s creativity to the next level with new pop out cereal box designs. The newly designed boxes are totally different than anything else you’ll find on the cereal aisle. No other cereal boxes can become toys!
We think the new Kix cereal box pop out designs are great. I love how building with pieces of the box encourages my children’s creativity. Popping out the pieces, building characters and reading the online storybooks are a fun new way for us to spend time playing together in the mornings.
The kids’ favorite part about the Kix Berry Berry box was popping out the pieces and putting them together. You can build any shape you want, but there are directions for how to make several different creations including an Ocean Fort, Octobot and Spaceship. Parents will have to help the kids with this activity (a little or a lot, depending on the age of your child). A few of the box pieces need an adult to use scissors to cut little notches. You can learn more about how the new boxes work at KixCereal.com/Storybook.
Visit KixCereal.com/Adventures on your mobile device to find interactive stories to read using with your Kix cereal box character creations.
This is Mazy the Octopus. Her storybook, written by Soleil Moon Frye, is just one of several you can read online with your family. Each story takes kids and parents on an adventure that inspires learning, imagination and play. There’s a part in each story where the Kix cereal box character the kids have created will come in handy.
Some of our favorite pictures on the box like the turtle and the treasure chest were not made to be punched out. That’s okay though, we cut them out of the box so we could play with them. I don’t know about the kids, but I really love the colors used on the Berry Berry Kix box. I do know the kids like eating the Berry Berry Kix Cereal flavor a lot.
There are 3 online storybook adventures for the Berry Berry Kix cereal box “Ocean” Adventure. My 5-year-old’s favorite online storybook was The Treasure Chest. We built the key from our cereal box pieces and used it during the story to unlock the treasure chest.
The new Kix Cereal pop out boxes (in two flavor varieties, Regular and Berry Berry) are available exclusively at Target.

I love when cereal boxes have cut outs on them, and my kids love them to. We do buy Kix cereal too, the original flavor is our favorite.

You guys look like you had tons of fun, I’m not the cool mom because I never let the kids play with the boxes, lol.
Nicole says
I’m sure you’re still a cool mom even if you don’t let the kids play with cereal boxes. These Kix boxes are pretty fun – you may have to bend the rules a little. 🙂 And just so you know, the kids can still enjoy the free online interactive storybooks without the box. Thanks for the comment! –Nicole

I used to love doing the puzzles and mazes on the backs of cereal boxes, as a kid. My favorite ever was one of those stories where a good chunk of the words were represented by pictures – remember those? My toddler has never had any kind of boxed cereal, as we try to eat more from scratch in our family, but I do love KIX, and that’s one brand I’m willing to feed her if we do have cereal for some reason. I’d personally love to try the berry flavor (yum!), so I’ll remember this down the road.

Hi Alena, Yes, I remember the picture puzzles on the back of cereal boxes. I loved those, too. I’m glad Kix is making cereal boxes fun and encouraging creativity with the pop out boxes. We have always liked the original Kix, but I decided to try something different this time because I thought the box was a pretty color. LOL This was our first time trying Kix Berry Berry flavor and it disappeared fast. (It was good – I think you’ll like it!) My boys like eating cereal for snacks, so we tend to go through a lot of cereal here at my house. Thanks for stopping by — Nicole

That is totally fun! KIX is such a healthy cereal that I buy it for my kids, but the fact that they provide a fun learning experience and activities is such a nice bonus. 🙂

I haven’t had Kix in a long time, but now I am craving some. I love the cute boxes too. My four year old would put that box to good use!
